AWS has today announced the general availability of Amazon DevOps Guru, a fully-managed operations service that uses machine learning to detect operational issues and recommend specific actions for remediation.
The Amazon DevOps Guru service was first announced in December and is already in use by companies including Atlassian, PagerDuty, and Thomson Reuters. From today, it is available for all customers in the Asia Pacific (Sydney) region, as well as US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), and US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), and Europe (Stockholm), with availability in additional regions in the coming months.
There are no upfront costs or commitments. Customers pay only for the data that the product analyses.
The service builds upon the years, and depth, of experience by Amazon and AWS, as well as the organisation’s mass data on application metrics, logs and events. By feeding this wealth of data into machine learning algorithms DevOps Guru can identify application behaviours deviating from normal operating platforms. When it identifies anomalies it will alert developers, providing details to aid in quickly understanding the problem and its potential impact, the likely cause, and even how to remediate the problem.
Developers can use Amazon DevOps Guru’s remediation suggestions with no effort, or make their own resolution. There is no manual setup or machine learning expertise required.
The product is a huge boon to application developers and infrastructure experts alike, as organisations continue to move to cloud-based micro-service architectures. While this design offers immense power, scale, flexibility, and uptime, it also offers complexity in managing code, configurations, containers, load balancers, resource sizing, and more. Companies invest considerably in multiple monitoring tools but setting thresholds to identify and alert on resource problems are difficult to get right, and require regular tuning which generally does not happen.
Now you can simply allow Amazon DevOps Guru to do the work for you, automatically detecting operational issues, proactively warning on potential resource exhaustion, and handling other problems, providing you with the information and detail – and recommended remediation steps – to actively combat the situation before it happens, before your customers notice, and before your business is impacted.

With a few clicks in the AWS Management Console customers can enable Amazon DevOps Guru to begin analysing account and application activity within minutes to provide operational insights. Amazon DevOps Guru gives customers a single console experience to visualise their operational data by summarising relevant data across multiple sources like AWS CloudTrail, Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Config, AWS CloudFormation, and AWS X-Ray).
It reduces the need to switch between multiple tools, and customers can view correlated operational events and contextual data for operational insights within the Amazon DevOps Guru console and receive alerts via Amazon SNS.
Amazon DevOps Guru supports API endpoints through the AWS SDK making it easy for Amazon Partner Network Partners and customers to integrate Amazon DevOps Guru into their existing solutions for ticketing, paging, and automatic notification of engineers for high-severity issues.
PagerDuty and Atlassian are among the AWS Partners that have integrated Amazon DevOps Guru into their operations monitoring and incident management platforms, and customers who use their solutions can now benefit from operational insights provided by Amazon DevOps Guru.
