To help organisations navigate the data backup challenges, Synology recently hosted a webinar, where it delved into the different data protection best practices. The virtual event also explored real-world cases and highlighted how Synology’s innovative solutions can help enterprises address their data backup needs without breaking the bank.
Now available on-demand, here are 3 key highlights from the Synology ‘Modern Data Backup’ webinar:
Insights on navigating today’s data challenges
As organisations continue to embrace remote and hybrid working models, the volume of data that’s being created and used outside the corporate perimeter is growing exponentially. This poses a significant risk to enterprise data, which could have devastating business impacts.
A study by Verizon revealed that more than 80% of security incidents in 2021 are caused by phishing attacks, which target employees via email. Security headlines over the past 18 months have also shown the rampant growth of ransomware attacks. In addition to the expanding threat landscape, another significant challenge that enterprises are facing is human error.
“It is easy to see why it is important to have solid backup solutions so that you can have complete protection from cyber-attacks, human errors, power failures and even disasters,” said Synology senior sales manager Mike Chen during his presentation.
With more and more data being created at the edge, Chen highlighted that the first step to creating a solid data backup plan is to “pull the data from the edge to the NAS.”
Real-world applications and best practices
Throughout the webinar, Chen discussed how their customers across various industries leveraged Synology’s data backup and protection solutions.
For one, Taiwan-based company SISHEIDO adopted Synology Active Backup for Business to support deduplication across devices, platforms, and versions, reducing the storage space required for backup tasks. The solution enabled SISHEIDO with cross-platform backup, deletion of duplicate data, and integration of VMM, effectively helping them to back up data stored in physical and virtual environments.
Another use case that Chen highlighted was for Japanese firm Otsuka. The company required a consistent and reliable backup system. With Synology Active Backup for Business (ABB), Otsuka was able to tackle its backup requirements. ABB’s centralised system interface for managing backup tasks provided Otsuka with the capability to protect its VMs, physical servers and PCs with one solution. For file sharing, the company deployed Synology Drive, which helped them to eliminate mismatched file versions and restored productivity across the organisation.
Polish lender Idea Bank was another customer success story that Chen touted. As a financial firm, Idea Bank is bound by regulation to keep a backup of all operations, including emails and Microsoft SharePoint data. With data scattered in different sources, performing backup and recovery tasks took a lot of time and effort. The company then invested in Synology solutions including ABB and Active Backup for Microsoft 365, which enabled them to not only ensure regulatory compliance but also boost operational efficiency and workplace productivity.
